Very Picky Eaters
Kail used to have an appetite of a horse. He would eat anything and everything that he could get his tinyhands on, even when he's not supposed to eat them because of his allergies. Lately he's been refusing food. I somehow blame my ever-picky husband for it. Hubz is an honest-to-goodness carnivore. He doesn't eat veggies nor fruits. Even with meat, he's very picky. He won't eat anything that he's not used to seeing/eating. His favorites are simply sinigang and fried chicken (not very challenging to cook!). He doesn't eat leftovers, and this is because his lola owns a canteen so he was spoilt not having to repeat food the next meal, and having a variety of choices when he eats. He doesn't cook either because his lola does that for a living anyway. Kail sees him picking out his food so he probably thinks this is how it's supposed to be, since they're together 24x7.
I'm really finding it hard to feed my two boys these days. I'm practically pulling my hair out to find a way for them to eat. As a working mom, I don't have time to cook three meals a day. Since migrating to the US a couple of months ago, hubz doesn't eat lunch anymore. He would eat a bagel and it'll last him 'til dinner. Come dinner time, I noticed that whenever we have veggies or leftovers, he would eat very little. But when it's meat, he eats even the last bit of rice.
I don't know what else to do to make my boys eat. At least Kail eats fruits and veggies, but hubz, forget it. It's like talking to a tree when I tell him the health benefits of eating these types of food.
Any ideas mommies? I'm really desperate for tips.
yikes. lol! i dunno what to tell you. rue eats anything too because nanay made sure that he makes friends with okra and kangkong. hahah.
ReplyDeletemaybe mickee, you should let the hubby be in charge of the kitchen and of course make sure he knows that kail will need all the veggies and fruits because he's a growing kid. i think that would somehow change his perspective. what ya think?
ninna underwent the same phase (picky eater! grrr!) and that phase of hers really aged me a lot, hehe, so i can understand your frustration. in ninna's case, i came to a realization na the reason why she didn't want to eat at that time was mainly due to her erupting molars. masakit yata for her to chew so she prefered milk and soups lang rather than meats and veggies (which obviously took a lot of effort on her part to chew). maybe you should check kail's too, baka yun din ang prob niya and giving him soft foods would help? :)
ReplyDeleteas for your other boy... naku medyo mahirap yata solusyonan kasi for sure lumabas na ang mga bagang ni hubby, hehehe. maybe hindi pa lang siya sanay sa "buhay amerika" kaya baka nag-eexpect pa siya ng "buhay pinas". :P why not plan the week's menu for the whole week together? para naman hindi siya masyadong mangapa in helping prepare the food and at the same time maging aware siya what kail should also need to eat. malay mo, sabay silang matuto to eat veggies and fruits :) besides, as a dad, kailangan niya din mag-set ng example kay kail di ba? from my experience, it took a long time before I metamorphosed into a domesticated (read: able to cook) wife, so bigyan mo lang siya ng time and for sure matututo/makaka-adjust din siya. good luck super mommy!
Hahaha!BI si hubby kay baby ah...hehehe. Well, I won't be much of help but I can probably suggest that you plan your menu each week and then show to clifford as well. Check some sites for menus available.
ReplyDeletehi mickee! maybe it will help that the food channel is always on even when you're not really watching. you're kinda brainwashing him in that way and who knows, he'd want to cook....he'll even want to try preparing veggies. also, you can try steaming veggies a few minutes before you eat with a dollop of cream and butter. i know, not really healthy, but that's a start. then ask him to taste. do it every time you cook veggies. and as he gets used to the taste, he might learn to like and tolerate it.
ReplyDeletei used to never like veggies as a kid up until i was in high school. but people change. just be patient. the same technique you can try with fruits. preparing fresh fruit salad and making sure he sees it's been prepared just a few minutes before mealtime. later you can try mixing salad greens and fruits. let him help you in the kitchen by preparing the dressing.
i'm so happy you're together. and your family is finally complete. mwah!
